Introducing our latest Compostable Canvas artist, Zac Fay

We are extremely excited to introduce our latest Compostable Canvas artist and Kiwi-born illustrator, Zac Fay!

The imaginative and bold illustrations showcased in our latest designs were created by looking at the ordinary and the complicated from a different perspective.

We spoke to Zac about finding inspiration in everyday life, how creativity impacts the planet, and of course we had to find out what his must-visit NZ spots are.

.

Hey Zac, we love the designs you have created for our recent Compostable Canvas Hot Cups! What inspires your particular style as an illustrator?

Thanks so much, I had a great time creating them! I’ve been doodling and drawing since I can remember, and I'm really influenced by city life, skateboarding culture, stunning landscapes, video games, music and creatures. Exploring cities big and small, and getting a glimpse of different creative communities, really inspires me as an illustrator.

What gets you into your creative flow?
A good coffee and good music certainly helps set the tone for creativity.

How do you think creativity can make a positive impact on the planet?

I think everyone has strengths that can make a positive impact on the planet. Creativity in an illustrative sense helps to spread information and positivity in a visual and meaningful, but also fun way. Creative ways of thinking can spark new ways and ideas to help solve environmental issues.

When you’re not creating, how do you each like to spend your spare time?
I love to get out skateboarding, swimming, going on walks, watching anime, and playing video games.

Since you’ve created these designs for our Hot Cups…what is your hot drink of. choice?
Long black, all day every day.

Though you’re now based in Melbourne, we know you’re originally from Dunedin! Can you tell us your must visit spots here in NZ?
In Dunedin, Tunnel Beach or anywhere along the Peninsula. Definitely spots around Central Otago: Roxburgh for Jimmy's Pies (at the source!) and Wanaka for the lake and mountains, and everything that comes along with that.

How can people purchase your work or get in touch or show their support?
I have a few prints up on my website zacfay.com, and would love for you to follow along and get in touch via my Instagram @zac.fay or email hello@zacfay.com.
