A decent conversation with Eighthirty

A decent conversation with Eighthirty

You may have heard, our friends at Eighthirty recently made the switch to our decent Aqueous Hot Cups and Paper Lids, offering their customers a certified home compostable and commercially compostable takeaway solution.

We caught up with Eighthirty's Ollie to talk about the inspiration behind the switch and all things custom-branding.

First up, can you please give our readers the low down on Eighthirty?

As you mentioned, we are specialty coffee roasters, established in 2009. Founder, Glenn Bell started on Karangahape Road with a small roaster/cafe operation that grew into what Eighthirty is today. A quality focused premium brand, that’s ethically minded and driven to make high calibre coffee accessible.

You are one of the first of our amazing coffee roaster customers here in NZ to make the switch to custom branded Aqueous Cups. Can you tell us a bit more about what inspired you to switch?

Eighthirty’s relationship with decent packaging goes way back! We are always trying to minimise our footprint and be sustainable, this was the natural progression towards ensuring we commit to our ethos and continue our relationship with decent.

You have also switched to Paper Lids. What does it mean to you to be able to provide a fully home compostable, takeaway solution to your customers?

We feel this is a huge step forward in the takeaway cup/coffee to go sector of our supply game. We have been careful to ensure rigorous testing was carried out first. Once we had given this the sign off, we felt that going all in was the most obvious step for us.

Your new custom-branded cup designs look amazing! Can you please tell our readers a bit more about the ideas behind the design?

We work with our long term graphic designer and wholesale customer Matt May of Murray Piha. Matt’s vision and design concepts have kept Eighthirty fresh and edgy. Eighthirty has always been a progressive and innovative brand. We wanted to showcase a clean slick look with lots of negative space so the current design concept with the plus, equal, minus, and the 0830 dots work perfectly.

What would you say to those who are thinking about getting decent products custom branded?

We highly recommend custom branding through decent. We love their innovation and focus on quality as it aligns with our values. The team was incredibly supportive and accommodating to our fast paced, sometimes reactive needs!
