Eighthirty goes Aqueous.
Eighthirty Coffee Roasters, the specialty coffee roaster and retailer we all know and love, have been serving up brews in the heart of Auckland City since 2009.
With sustainability and ethically sourced coffee at the heart of it all, we're proud as punch to have been working with the team since 2010, supplying them with all of their sustainable takeaway drink packaging.
Recently, they made the switch to our Paper Lids and custom-branded Aqueous Hot Cups, making them one of our first coffee roaster customers in New Zealand to do so.
This means that they are now able to provide their customers with a fully certified home and commercially compostable takeaway drink solution. How good is that!
Why Aqueous Hot Cups and Paper Lids?
Both decent packaging Aqueous Hot Cups and Paper Lids are made from responsibly sourced paper, lined with a thin water-based barrier coating, and coloured in water-based inks.
The added bonus is that they are PLA-free which means that not only are they certified commercially compostable - they are home compostable, and earthworm approved!
What is the difference between our Aqueous Hot Cups and our PLA Hot Cups?
What is the difference between home compostable and commercially compostable?
Commercial or industrial composting is composting on a larger scale than at-home composting. It can deal with a wider range of compostable products as it is conducted in highly controlled settings. Commercial composts apply a much higher heat to the waste, speeding up the process and producing a high-quality, toxic-free compost.
For a list of waste collection providers in New Zealand, you can read more here.
Home composting on the other hand, allows you to produce a high-quality, toxic-free compost right from the comfort of your backyard and is often done using a compost bin, or vermicompost (a worm farm). An at home compost can handle food scraps, garden trimmings , and any waste that doesn’t require specialised collection.
Everything that goes into making our Aqueous Hot Cups and Paper Lids can be broken down and decomposed into organic soil at home, including the water-based inks.
